REVIEW OF NATIONAL EDUCATION POLICY, 2020
The new National Education Policy 2020 proposes the revision and revamping of all aspects of education in India. Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Kalathara imbibed the key aspects of the policy from the beginning of the Academic year 2021 – 22 itself.
Following are the major steps taken towards implementation of NEP in our Vidyalaya in the academic year 2022 - 23.
- In the new 5+3+3+4 structure, a strong base of Early Childhood Care & Education from age 3 is included, aimed at promoting better overall learning, development and well – being. Taking this into consideration, ChinmayaVidyalaya, Kalathara started the Pre – KG class for the age group of 3 from the Academic year 2021 – 22 with 3 students in the first batch and continuing with 23 students in this Academic year.
- To bridge the learning gap due to the online classes of the previous academic year, 2 months of revision classes focusing the development of reading and writing skills was conducted for Classes I & II during the present Academic year. For classes III to VIII, 1 month of revision classes based on the concepts taught during the previous academic year, was conducted.
- Sanskrit is introduced as an optional language from Class III onwards during the Academic year 2022 – 23.
- All the activities as well as competitions in the Vidyalaya are being conducted as per the category of stages mentioned in the NEP from the present Academic year. i.e. Foundational Stage, Preparatory Stage, Middle Stage & Secondary Stage.
- The duties of teachers in Examination department are also allotted as per the new Academic structure mentioned in NEP.
- NEP has emphasized on reduction of weight of school bags as part of maintaining Physical Health and Well – being of students. Our Vidyalaya has implemented this from the Academic year 2020 – 21 by introducing Term Books for KG and Monthly Term Books for Classes I to V. During the present Academic year, we have implemented Term Books for KG to V.
- NEP suggests minimum 50 hours of Professional Development for teachers during an academic year. Teachers of ChinmayaVidyalaya, Kannamaly completed 50 hours of CPD during the past Academic year & by this time of the present Academic year, on an average, almost 30 hours of CPD completed.
- The Lesson Plan prepared by teachers clearly mentions the Learning Outcomes (LOs) so that the final result to be achieved is distinct and instructional methods can be accordingly planned. Focus on development of 21st Century skills is ensured by its inclusion in the Lesson Plan. The Lesson Plan is also modified as per the instructions from CMECT – GC.
- Art integrated activities and art integrated projects are being done by students in all subjects & in all classes from the previous Academic year onwards.
- As NEP stresses on preparing students for life as well as developing etiquettes in Early Childhood Education, Life Skill activities are introduced from Pre – KG. Activities like folding and unfolding of napkins, laying a lunch, folding a T shirt and stacking it in a cupboard, pulse sorting activity, picking activity using pulses,
transferring grains using spoon are introduced in Pre KG.
- As suggested by NEP, Art integration, Sports integration, Story telling pedagogy &Experiential learning introduced in all classes.
- Computational thinking introduced right from KG to Class VII through the curriculum based on Artificial Intelligence & Coding.
- Health & Wellness, being a Mandatory skill as mentioned in NEP, more opportunities in the field of Sports is being introduced from 15th September in our Vidyalaya by providing coaching in Basketball, Taekwondo, Boxing, Skating, KhoKho, Athletics & Chess. Coaching for Football & Cricket will also be continued.
- To develop a flavour towards Art in the young minds, the walls in KG are painted with Warli art, which is also part of BaLa (Building as Learning aid).
We are looking forward towards the implementation of the following plan as part of NEP in the days to come.
- Introduction of Bagless days – 10 days bagless internship with local trades / craftsperson.
- As CBSE has sanctioned our Vidyalaya as a SamajikChetna Kendra, implementation of CVP through related activities.
- As part of Health & Wellness, Yoga for parents during morning hours.
- Holistic Progress card of students.
- Health check - up for students and teachers.
- Continuous Professional Development for Teachers from CoE.
